The "Around the Masłów Range" Bike Trail is a cycling route, slightly exceeding 13 kilometres, signposted in yellow. It is one of the bike trails marked out by the Kielce-based Society of Tourism and Sightseeing in this area. It runs from Ciekoty to Masłów through the Klonówka and Dąbrówka Hills of the Masłów Range, one part of the Świętokrzyskie Mountains. This very difficult MTB trail runs through hardly passable roads, only for cyclists traveling on mountain bikes.
The general route of the trail is as follows: Ciekoty (0.0 km) - turn towards the Ameliówka and Przedwiośnie Hotels (2.8 km) - Masłów Pierwszy (7.6 km) - Mąchocice Scholasteria (9.9 km) - Ciekoty (13.2 km).
The route’s starting point is in Ciekoty, at the gate of the “Glass House” Education Centre. It is a local hub of bike trails. Next to the blue route, there is also a green route to the locality of Święta Katarzyna and blue one, to Wola Kopcowa and the Cedzyna artificial lake.
In Ciekoty, Stefan Żeromski, the eulogist of the Świętokrzyskie region, spent his childhood. To commemorate the writer and his work, the "Glass House" was created. This is an education and cultural institution, organizing exhibitions and various cultural and artistic events. Next to it a wooden noble manor house, based on the home of Stefan Żeromski, was constructed. There is an exhibition inside dedicated to the writer's life and work.
From the Glass House Education Centre, a trail runs down into the valley of the Lubrzanka River. It runs along a road in a ravine between two hills, Radostowa (451 m above sea level) and Dąbrówka, in front of the village of Mąchocice Kapitulne, turning into an asphalt road leading up to the Ameliówka and Przedwiośnie hotels.
The most difficult and the most interesting part of the route begins beyond the hotels. Muddy and rocky roads, steep climbs and descents are a challenge even for experienced cyclists. The trail is rather a hiking route than a cycling one. But the reward for persistent sportsmen are picturesque views of Łysogóry, the city of Kielce and lower ranges of the Świętokrzyskie Mountains.
After reaching the ridge, the trail runs for about 4 kilometres down to the village of Masłów Pierwszy. It is the headquarters of the Masłów Municipality, bordering with the city of Kielce from the north-west side. From here, an asphalt road through Mąchocice-Scholasteria runs back to the village of Ciekoty.
Points of interest along the trail:
- Ciekoty – Żeromski manor house, “Glass House” Education Centre
- Hills of the Masłów Range - beautiful views
Not all fragments of the trail are suitable for bicycles with panniers/bike trailers. The trail runs separately from the road traffic, only safe cycling through public roads, separate bike trails and roads without road traffic, dirt roads, forest roads and others. A trail for lovers of mountain biking and off-road cycling. Trail offering outstanding vistas.
