The synagogue was built in the picturesque Szczebrzeszyn in the region of Western Roztocze, on the Wieprz River. Dating back to the early 17th century, the late-Renaissance temple was rebuilt in 1957-1962 and covered with a mansard roof. In 1965, it became the seat of the Municipal Cultural House.

In the auditorium, a stone portal over Aron ha-Kodesh (where the Torah is kept), and other original design elements, such as a decorative strip with arcaded niches, have survived. Currently, monthly exhibitions and concerts are organised inside the synagogue. It is also home to a Tourist Information Point, whose staff can upon request provide access to those wishing to visit the nearby Orthodox church from the 16th century. Sightseeing of the synagogue and the Orthodox church is free of charge.
