Wodziłki
Historical Towns and Villages
This little village, located in the Suwalski National Park and situated in the Szeszupa valley, was established in the second half of the eighteenth century by the Russians who settled here, seeking refuge from persecution in their homeland, as they did not accept the reforms introduced into the Orthodox Church. They started being referred to as Old Believers, or Raskolnikovs.
A 1921 wooden molenna, that is the temple of Old Believers, is located in the village. In Poland, there are approx 1,500 people of that religion. In the region of Podlasie, molennas are also located in Suwałki and Gabowe Grądy near Augustów.
