Sejny
Historical Towns and Villages
Poland’s smallest county town in terms of population, situated on the Polish-Lithuanian borderland on the Marycha river.
The most impressive monument here is the Dominican monastery complex with a late Renaissance basilica of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary from the early seventeenth century. It is here that the most precious, famous miraculous Gothic wooden statue of the Virgin Mary with Child is kept. Sejny is an important point on the Transboundary Dominican Route. The city’s landmarks include the White Synagogue from the years 1860-1870 (which is one of the best preserved monuments of this type in Podlaskie Voivodship) and the former Talmud House.
Additionally, the local Borderland of Arts, Cultures and Nations Centre operations are quite dynamic.
