The red trail in the Municipality of Cieszanów is one of four short bike loops laid out in the vicinity of that town. The route has around 20 kilometres and takes relatively good roads, passing by several interesting sights along the way. Near Cieszanów, you will find preserved wooden and brick Greek Catholic churches and numerous stone crosses manufactured in Brusno. These beautiful crosses now adorn the roads and cemeteries in the whole area. In the summer, the village of Gorajec becomes the venue for events such as the Folkowisko Borderland Culture Festival. The route is rather well marked and equipped with new places where cyclists can rest.

The general course of the trail is as follows: Cieszanów, “Wędrowiec” recreation complex (0.0 km) - Gorajec (5.4 km) - Chotylub (11.0 km) - Nowe Sioło (18.1 km) - Cieszanów, “Wędrowiec” recreation complex (20.6 km).

The trail is fairly easy and short, suitable for a leisurely bike trip.  Cieszanów, in which the trail begins and ends, is a small town with history going back to the 16th century. It has several religious monuments, including a heavily destroyed synagogue and a Jewish cemetery, a Greek Catholic Church of St. George from 1900, as well as a Catholic church. A typical frontier region urban layout has survived here, with a small market square in the centre. In the eastern part of the town, there is a large recreation complex called “Wędrowiec” (“Wanderer”), offering both leisure facilities and accommodation.  It is near the this complex that the trail begins. From there, it heads north to the village of Gorajec. This village, once associated mainly with the bloody events of the Polish-Ukrainian conflict, is now known thanks to the Folkowisko Borderland Culture Festival and other events, organised by local enthusiasts of folk culture. Be sure to see one of the most beautiful and oldest of Greek Catholic churches in Poland, built in the 16th century.  From Gorajec, the trail goes through fields to the village of Chotylub. This locality, situated in the valley of the Brusienka River, has some interesting religious monuments. These include a wooden Greek Catholic church, a stone bell tower and a cemetery in which you will see many stone crosses manufactured in Brusno, typical for the area. You can see more of them in the upper reaches of the Brusienka, in the villages of Nowe Brusno and Stare Brusno, and Polanka Horyniecka. The red trail heads downstream, to the village of Nowe Sioło, which is almost adjacent to Cieszanów, as they both lie in the Valley of Brusienka. It has a beautiful, white brick Orthodox Church of St. Elias from the beginning of the 20th century.  From this point, the trail goes to Cieszanów, where the loop closes.

Points of interest along the trail:

  1. Cieszanów - religious monuments, urban layout, remnants of the State Agricultural Farm
  2. Gorajec - Orthodox church, cemetery, religious monuments, Chutor Gorajec - folklore events.
  3. Chotylub - Orthodox church, cemetery
  4. Nowe Sioło - Orthodox church, palace ruins

The entire trail is suitable for bicycles with panniers/bike trailers. The trail uses solely roads with no motor vehicle traffic allowed or local roads with a low and very low vehicle traffic; no dangerous intersections. Recreational character. Trail of outstanding cultural heritage value.
