The Wizna Swamp Trail is a recreational trail with the length of a little over 30 km. It uses paved roads with general traffic in its entirety, going from Strękowa Góra into the valley of the Narew through Rutki-Kossaki, opposite the village of Wizna. The biggest attractions on the trail are the extensive wetlands it crosses. They provide a habitat for many species of rare animals. The whole area looks spectacular in the spring, when the marshes are filled with water and thousands of birds fly in.

The general route of the trail is as follows: Strękowa Góra (0.0) - Rutki-Kossaki, market square (18.3 km) - Sulin-Strumiłowo (32.1 km).

The whole length of the trail is almost flat and rather uniform, with only a moderately steep ascent and descent located near the village of Rutki-Kossaki. The distance and the good hard surface of the roads make this a recreational/leisure trail. The trail is particularly suited for road bikes.  The trail is poorly marked and rather lacking in terms of recreational infrastructure. In the vicinity of the trail, one can see landmarks of resistance from September 1939 in the Narew Valley. The first one is located to the west of Góra Strękowa on a hill by the river. A ruined bunker is now a memorial site with the tomb of the commander of defence of the redoubt, Captain Władysław Raginis. Another defence point can be seen in Wizna, near the place where the trail ends.

Points of interest along the trail:

  1. Strękowa Góra - viewing point with vistas of the Narew Valley, Capt. Raginis’ defence redoubt
  2. Wizna - point of defence from 1939
  3. Swamps of the Narew Valley

The entire trail is suitable for bicycles with panniers/bike trailers. The trail uses solely roads with no motor vehicle traffic allowed or local roads with a low and very low vehicle traffic; no dangerous intersections. Recreational character.

Starting point:

The village of Sulin-Strumiłowo, national road no. 64 by the bridge over the Narew

Finishing point:

Strękowa Góra, the western edge of the village
