Opatów
Historical Towns and Villages
In Opatów, which is located on the Amber Road, the past left many important monuments. The most valuable monument of the town is the Church of St Martin, evocative of the Romanesque period, which is famous for its Renaissance tombstone of the Szydłowiecki family, adorned with a bronze bas-relief, known as the Opatów Lament.
Near the church, there is the old town, where you can see the Renaissance town hall building from the end of 16th and the beginning of the 17th centuries. Under the houses, using the old merchants’ cellars, the Underground Tourist Route, 335 metres in length, is open to visitors. When visiting Opatów, you cannot miss the Bernardine Fathers’ monastery, founded in the 15th century, with the Baroque Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
